I have a HP Pentium 2,500 MHz computer, running win98.It was fine the one day,the next day I turn on the computer and I get nothing,just a blue screen.I put the recovery CDs in,at first it tells me this are not the original CDs they came with the computer.Then I booted the computer direct from the CDs and I got to the recovery screen but it freezes all the time so I can't do anything.I got into DOS and got some errors with my HINEM.SYS, can not be loaded.Somebody has any ideas and can help me??? I don't want to loose all my stuff on my hard drive,so I don't want to reformat the drive.
Try booting with your 98 recovery floppy and at the a: prompt type sys c:

I would try holding down the control key at boot up and selecting command prompt only. At the c:promt type: "scanreg /restore" and press enter. Select a backed up registery that is good and choose to restore it, Reboot and see if it works.
