Comment:

I was on the Internet yesterday when I got the following
"blue screen"

an exception OE has occurred at 0028:C15FE166 in VxD
AFVXD (01) + 00001636
this was called from 0028:C1843284 in VxD PPPMAC
(04) + 000079B4

It may be possible to continue normally.

I was able to continue with no problems. Then today,
it took a long time for my start page to load, & I
could not access ANY Web sites. I kept getting the
"page unavailable". I probably tried 15 sites before giving
up. I then deleted all history, cookies, & temp internet
files,(ran disk cleanup & had 28mb of files. I thought these would be deleted through internet options?). Tried 2 more times on the internet with no success.
I re-booted & was going to run scandisk & defrag, but neither
would work. Scandisk would restart after about 5 sec., &
defrag would only go to 1% & then restart.

I can get on the internet again, for what ever reason, but if
anyone can tell me what my problem was, & if the scandik, defrag problem is related to the "blue screen", I will be gratefull.

Thanks, Charles

You are losing your hard drive.. Go to the HD Manufacturers site and look for a download to test it..That will give you an RMA(return)message to return the drive for replacement,
What you have is bad sectors...Copy your goodies(music, pics, address book) to cd or another drive before it completely dies

usually defrag and scandisk, not running
properly are due to programs running in the background, press ctrl+alt+del and end task
all but systray and explorer, and try again,
if it's still a no go, you can run them in safemode, press f8 when it says starting windows and choose safemode from the list.

another option for defrag is a free defragger
called diskeeper lite, it is almost the same as the new defrag utility that M$ bought from executive software, for win-xp.
diskeeper lite download site

Blamm, I copied all important files & will try to call the HD manufacturer on Monday.

WWW, My first venture in to "safe mode" was good & bad. Scandisk ran & said all was fine. When I tried to run defrag. I got the following message,

Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module KRNL386.exe at 000:00001c31. When I tried to get out of that I got the following,

fatal exception OE has occurred at 013F:00001C31.

Then I lost everything on my desktop & had to manualy re- boot.

I ran a search on Google, found out that KRNL.exe is an important Windows file, but nothing specific to my problem.

I'll keep looking!!!!

Thanks, Charles

Blamm, I have saved all important files & will try to contact the HD manufacturer on Monday.

WWW, My first venture into "safe mode" was good & bad. scandisk ran & reported no problems, but when I tried defrag, first I got this message,

Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module KRNL386.exe at 0001:00001c31, & then
fatal exception OE has occured at 013F:00001c31.

I had to manully shut down to proceed. I then returned to safe mode & this time defrag did run.

I did try to find out about KRNL386.exe, through Google, but found nothing specific to my problem other than it is an important file for awindows.

So far no problems today, but it has this "old, newbie" confused.

Thanks, Chuck
