Hi everyone!! hope you can help me!!!
when the pc is about to load the win98se logo in the startup, there's blue screen stating that:
"A fatal exception 0E has occured at 017F:BFF8AB97. The current application will be terminated."
then i cannot go through the startup options or F8 because i got this errors.
i tried to reinstall windows98se, but still get the same error.
any suggestions...
please help!!!

Cant get to f8 not even for command prompt only? Thats not good. Try booting from a rescue disk - to a command prompt. Switch to the C:\windows dir and type "scanreg /restore"
then pick a date prior to when it started. If nogo there try renaming the system.dat and user.dat to something temporarily and then rename the user.da0 and system.da0 to their logical .dat counterpart.
IF nogo you are looking at reinstalling windows into a new directory.
Although there is a very real possibility that you have bad RAM. So whatever works better for you, swapping RAM or good ol' DOS is where I would start first.

First of all Windows doesn't cause "fatal exception" errors. Windows just report them. The problem lies somewhere else, and those errors take time to track them down.
Just look at the list of possible causes HERE

Hello there...
Ive recently had a very similar problem on a customers PC....the code being 0167:BFF8AB97.
I found that the problem was the Mobo (an ASUS A7N266-VM) had very poor drivers for Win98 causing it to blue screen frequently on boot up...like urs.
I did some tests and 3Dmark2001SE gave a score of 3050 (not a gaming machine..) on win98 but with Win2k 4194...a BIG difference as there was no hardware change.
The system is now fully stable on 2K
Check for later drivers on the manufacturers web site...you could be lucky!Carl
