I bought a computer game called Blitzkrieg on Saturday. It looked like fun, and it got pretty good reviews overall. It cost me $40. I try to install it on a 633MHz 192MB RAM Windows ME machine running DirectX 9. The program seemed to install fine (all 2.4GB of it). I try to run the game by clicking on the icon on the desktop. The "CDV movie" plays as does the "Nival Interactive" and introduction movies. After the intro movie is finished, the screen goes black for about two seconds, and then returns to the Windows desktop. The program has closed (not minimized mind you but closed). Restarting the computer and re-installing the game did not fix it. I removed it for good.
Now, I do not like Windows ME. I figured maybe there was some compatibility issue. I tried installing it on a 533MHz 256MB Windows 98SE machine running DirectX 8.1. Again, the installation appears to go well. I try clicking on the icon...this time the movies don't even get a chance to play. Screen goes black, returns to the desktop.
With dwindling hope I tried installing it on a 1.3GHz 256MB Windows XP machine running DirectX 9. About three quarters of the way through the installation I get a little message telling me that there was some sort of I/O error that was probably due to bad media or a corrupted file.
Could this I/O thing possibly have been the problem behind the other two failed attempts? Or maybe it's just a thing with German software companies to make games that don't like to work on American computers.
Sorry for the long post, but there is no telling when/if I'll hear from CDV's tech-support (I already e-mailed them about this). I'm taking it back to GameStop on Tuesday...unless somebody can give me a clue as to what's wrong and how to fix it.
THANKS!

What is the minimum and reccommended system requirements? Have you checked their website for troubleshooting?

Richard: Run the game directly from the Mech.exe in the game directory. If that solves your problem assign a shortcut to mech.exe and you'll be up and running. You might miss the intro but.....
