I have a chess application called Blitzin (32 bit, and powerful) that freezes up after
I have used it for about five minutes. I have been trying to figure
out what causes it to freeze up for many months. I have plenty of ram (46)
and plenty of disk space (70%). However, my system resources seem to be low.
When I first turn on the computer they are at 88% (already low) and when I log on to my ISP they drop to 83%. To research the low percentage I
hit Ctrl, Alt, Delete to bring up the Task List. The Task List showed 11 items. They were: Explorer, EditPad, Ibmsuspd, Loadwc, Systray, Robot,
Mwsw95, Discrim, Mwmodem, Mvsloadr, and Ibmavtim. My question is which items can be deleted and how do you delete them (permanently). I want to bring my system resources up to about 93% or better so that my chess application won't freeze up after 5 minutes of use.Yours, Mel Tyner

It frezes because you run out of memory. You should have more ram, the more the better. Ignore the %'s.
You got too much junk running in the background.
Explorer and Systray are normal, leave them running.
The rest?
Loadwc is LoadWebCheck from Microsoft that checks the web for who knows what, can toss it permanently, same for Robot.
The rest are from programs or devices you installed, look in the StartUp, remove them to stop them from running, make sure whatever you delete from startup is in it's program in case you have to put them back.
If they're not in the startup, like loadwc, you have to go into the registry and do it there. BACKUP the registry first.

A handy tasklist identifier is athttp://members.aol.com/tsrlst/ There is a windows add on that gives the resources broken down to 3 types. Check in accessories, system tools, resource meter. Note these are displayed "85% free" A low value in any one of the 3 areas indicates a problem.
