Are you running these games in a dos window? If so, hit ALT-ENTER when in dos mode to get full screen dos.

No Dave I'm running in windows 98. I havent been able to locate Direct x after being told that it would get rid of the black screen problem. I need to tell u this: The black screern appears around the game making it much smaller. Thanks my friend!

Thanks Dave but I've used directx and it cannot solve the problem. It allowes us to play games with the black border but the cursor still wont work also I can do e-mails. I can only do work that requires reading. I'll look around a little more to see if I can get lucky...

The term 'cursor' is usually used to refer to the blinking underline on a dos screen. That's why I thought you might be running a game in a dos window. Sometimes that cursor will disappear unless your dos is full-screen.
Instead of 'cursor' do you mean the mouse or is it some part of the game itself?

Mouse cursor is what I've always been told, but you're right. It was my mouse pointer, (as I'll call it) but I have it working now. Cleaned everything & ran scandisk & defrag again. Turned it on and there it was! I do appreciate your help... Thanx Jay

Cursoris an acceptable alternative to 'pointer', especially wrt Windows - naturally the DOS useage predated Windows
Windows does store the mouse pointer images (*.cur) in its Cursor folder
