When I try to open a bitmap file it opens up a prompt with, Open, Save and two other options. When I click open it prompts me again for the same thing.
I accidentally clicked don't ask me again or something like that and now when I try and open it the download box just keeps blinking. Can someone help me fix this problem please?

To restore the options:
Go to My Computer/View/Folder Options
Select the File types tab
Scan the list and find the BMP type that you are having the problem with
Highlight it and select 'edit'
Put a check in the 'Confirm open after download' box

That fixed half of the problem. Thanks. :)
Now it still prompts me to Open, Save, Cancel, or More Info. When I click Open it just prompts me again and doesn't open.
Can you give me a cure for this?

Tony
Something sounds odd here.Is this .bmp file located on the internet or in an email rather than stored on your hard drive?
If it is then first select Save.
Your security settings or your anti virus program may be protecting you. Can you see the full file name and it's extensions so as to know that it is in fact a .bmp file?If the file is located on your hard drive then you should not be seeing the download dialog box.
Another thought is if it is from the internet then perhaps you need to empty your full Temporary internet files folder by going to IE Tools, Internet options, General tab, TIF section and click the button to Delete files. If there are more than 10,000 of them then you will need to wait until it is complete to hit the button again for the next 10,000 files.

Hi Bryan,
I actually downloaded the files already and had no problem with that, so they are on my hard drive already. The other day I did a full clean out of everything with evidence eliminator so it's not that either. They are definetely .bmp files.
I really don't understand why it's happening.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Tony,
Ok, the .bmp is located on your hard drive.
When you click on it you get the download dialog box that offers Open, Save and two other options. (correct me if I am wrong)How about left clicking on the .bmp file to select it, hold down the Shift key and right click on it to bring up the context menu that contains the option to 'Open With' and select it.
Place a check in the box at the bottom that says to always use this program for this file type and then choose MSPaint to open it.Hopefully it will now open in Paint. If it does then close out Paint and then double click on the .bmp file again to see if it will open in Paint in a normal fashion.
If you prefer another graphics program then go through that procedure again selecting the program you want.
My guess is that your .bmp extension had been associated with IE which is not really the best choice for .bmp.

Yep that was the problem. It is fine now.
Thanks a lot for your help Bryan. I really do appreciate it. :)
