Hi. In order for my Asus P2L97 to support a celeron processor of 533MHz i had to flash the bios to a newer version. I followed the steps given at asus support and the bios update went well, it said update successfull.
Now, when i boot up the computer, after it detects my drives and gives the PCI device listing it gives me a message saying "Update DMI Information" and it wont continue to boot so i can't even boot into windows or a boot disk.
I can't find any information on the web about this. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.
I have a connected:
CD-Rom Drive
20GB hard Drive (which worked fine before the flash update so that can't be the problem)
2 sticks of 128MB PC100 SDRAM
A 2mb PCI graphics card
Keyboard and MouseThanks again in advance!!!

If you can get into the bios try resetting the bios to the defaults and then rebooting. If that doesn't work try clearing the CMOS.

Hi. I have cleared the CMOS but it still doesn't work. My problem sounds exactly like this one:

Thanks again for your help.
Has anyone tried buying a reprogrammed bios chip from recoverybios.com?

Hi Fabian,
ASUS has delivered a new Flash utility AFLASH 2.2.1 which does not update the Boot Block and ESCD. This causes a problem when flashing your BIOS as a part of the Patch is applied. It results in a message 'Update DMI Information' and hangs from there.
I had the same problem like most of people after flashing ASUS BIOS (AWARD V4.51 PG) I have seen from some Forums.
At this stage, you cannot do anything as you have not accessed to the floppy disk to patch again.
The solution consists of removing the EPROM on your motherboard and reprogram it from an another motherboard starting with an old AFLASH utility where it contains 'Update with Boot Block and ESCD' option. This is important !!!
I have more than one motherboard so I can do it easily.
Hope this help.

Hello. Thanks AntoineV. Funny thing is I just finished reading this,
"When flashing your BIOS on the ASUS P2L97 - DO NOT - Use ASUS aflash.exe utility available on the Asus sight.
ASUS posted a bogus flash ver and it does not work with Award Bios ver 4.51PG 12/02/97-i440LX-00.This took me a few hours to figure out. The zip file contains. CTBIOS.exe Tool to help identify your BIOS. PFLASH.exe Flash utility that works. LX2i1009.awd – Asus BIOS update."From: http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=120320,
when i decided to see if anyone replyed to this message and I saw your reply. Thanks a lot. I have been looking for a solid answer all over the place.
Question is how do i go about reprogramming it from another motherboard? Thanks AntoineV.

Hi Fabian,
You have to use a different process to reprogram your BIOS as the current one is not operational.
The operation is a bit more complex as you need to :
1. Use an another motherboard to flash the one in failure with compatible Chip family
2. Proceed a hotswap of ChipsI use an ASUS P5A MB to flash the Bios from ASUS P2L97 MB. It's different than flashing the Bios on the same Motherboard.
Do you know someone having an ASUS MB around you and are you confortable with this kind of manipulation ?

Hello. I have a few motherboards I can work with but none of them are from ASUS. One of them is a Compaq Presario. I don't know what size Bios Chip it uses.(I haven't checked yet). If its the same size chip, can I use this motherboard?
About being comfortable, this motherboard won't work if i leave it as is so I guess I don't mind trying anything to help out this board.
Thanks!!

Hi Fabian,
The flash utility I use is AFLASH and is designed for ASUS Bios. I'm not sure that it will work for others Motherboards. I have tried PFLASH as described in some forum notes, but the test has failed for me.
In fact, there are more than one problem when flashing from an another MB :
- using the same chip socket for AWARD EPROM
- using the chip socket with the same voltage
- using a MB which accepts to run AFLASH. Perhaps an another similar utility may work. When I ask for being confortable with this manipulation, I mean no risk for the motherboard you will use to flash. There may have a small risk to cause a damage which will let you with 2 MBs out of service.
I understand that you don't mind for the one having problem and that was my initial though.
In any case, let me know if I can be help for you.

Hi !
I have exactly the same problem ! :-(
But i have two P2L97 motherboard.
For one motherboard, it perfectly works, but not for the other one ! What may i try ?ps : my english is not so good : sorry :-)

Hi Larry. What I did to solve my problem was get my bios reprogrammed. There is a seller on ebay who does this for $11. Here's the Link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1244&item=3476041276&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
Basically, you send him your chip. He reprograms and he sends the chip back. When I got mine back everything was working just fine!!!
Hope this helps.
