Bios resets to factory settings

3 times in the last 2 months I have had a problem booting up and have found the bios has reset to what I think are the factory settings (time date etc). If I go into the bios and reset time date processor and memory speeds(which also alter to incorrect settings) it boots up no problem, as said this is an intermittent problem. Does anyone know what could cause this the motherboard is approx 18 months old,could it be a battery problem. Thanks in advance.

Although the battery normally lasts longer than 18 months it appears it needs replacing.

motherboard is approx 18 months old, non techie answer: the mobo was with you for 18 months, but we dont know how long the mobo was with the vendor, warehouse in transit etc. Also the battery cud be slightly older too.

There are some cmos virus' that'll do that. You might want to run a virus check.
