Hello my laptop has a phoenix BIOS. I need to access it, but dont know the password. Is there any default passwords I can try? I have no idea where in the laptop the CMOS is so I cant exactly remove that for 10 minutes. :( Its a Gateway SOLO 2300 BTW.

Jason,

Where'd you get the laptop? Did you buy it used? Or, did you just forget your password after setting it?

I bought it awhile ago, from a local computer shop. It had some minor problems down the line I just took care of. Needed a new hard drive. Things liek that.. cdrom burned out. :-o So now im at the point of trying to get an operating system on it. I just need to get it to boot properly. So it strikes the floppy/cdrom.

for PC, I know you just remove the battery that from the MOBO and the password is reset.

Good luck removing the battery. Usually that doesn't work on laptops. There is only one backdoor password for the Phoenix password which is "phoenix". On the other hand if you had an award bios, you could try:

AWARD_SW
j262
HLT
SER
SKY_FOX
BIOSTAR
ALFAROME
Lkwpeter
j256
AWARD?SW
LKWPETER
syxz
ALLy
589589
589721
awkward
CONCAT
d8on
CONDO
j64
szyx

Thats just for anyone else who comes along.

Keith

if you means you are do not know the password for ME login then just hit Enter or Escape Key. That should by-pass the login screen and get you into ME desktop.

Afterwards you can reset the password file and start afresh (look for *.pwl files via the find files tool/option in Explorer and delete them).
