I've searched and searched but all the links that look hopeful are dead.GA-5smm F3 i think is my processor or system board, I'm not totally sure, but I think thats important. its an SIS motherboard.
Thx for any help

Use a drive overlay such as easy bios. Your new drive should have come with some type of drive overlay software.

A drive overlay like EZBIos has nothing to do with the Win2K/XP BIOS upgrade.
Start looking here for your system BIOS:
http://www.wimsbios.com
P.S.: You do NOT have an Award BIOS, you have an Award BIOS chip. The BIOS is the program code stored inside of the chip. The code comes from the motherboard manufacturer, not Award.

First, find out your motherboard. Different motherboard manufacturers have their own modified 4.51 bios version. Go to this site and read how. ---> http://www.wimsbios.com/
Second, go to your motherboard manufacturer site and download the bios update (links are available).
Third, before installing make sure you've got the latest flash upgrade utility (awdflash.exe) and the downloaded newbios file (newbios.BIN)
NOTE: The Award flash utility cannot run when EMM386 or QEMM are loaded. If you try, an error message appears.
Fourth, read instructions on how to install on this site. ----> http://www.oshvn.net/en/software/awdflash.htm
Post here if you're still having problem on how to upgrade.
