i took out a non working hard drive and put in a new one that was reformatted. I hooked up the computer and now nothing happens when i turn it on, it doesnt even do a BIOS startup... Is the computer dead or did i maybe accidentally unhook something? Any ideas?? Really need to get it working...

What make/model computer is it?
Make sure that the IDE cable is plugged in correctly there should be a red bar on one side of the cable and a little "1" beside a pin on the drive. Make sure th bar is on the side of the 1.

Do you hear anything? (sound of drive winding up, beeps) anything at all on the display or does it shut itself off?

Check your power connectors on the mobo.

Also, check the ribbon cable on the new hard drive.

Is it the SAME connector that was in the old one? Make sure that the edge of the ribbon cable that has the red (or other colored) stripe is plugged into Pin 1 on the new hard drive (usually the pin towards the power connector on the hard drive).

Make sure that all the cables are connected just as they were before, that you did not loosen any cards or memory chips when you had the machine open.

HTH

Having the IDE cable in upside down can cause this problem.
