I tried to install the correct driver for my monitor on my win98 system, but it says the best driver is already installed. I know it isn't since windows used a basic one from it's own (just an undefined monitor) and mine is the one from the manufacturer. Is there a way to avoid this? Thnx for any replies.

Unless you have a monitor with unusual features it's rarely necesssary to install drivers for a monitor. But you should be able to force windows to install the other driver by right clicking My Computer, Properties, Device Manager, Monitors, your monitor, Properties, Driver, Update Driver, then browse to your Cd-Rom and select the driver on that.

Or try Right clicking the desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > Monitor > Change > Etc ...
Sometimes that works.
