Cud any1 help me. which is the best antivirus software in the market. Mcafee or norton.
i hope mcafee detects 52000+
norton is arnd 49000. is that true???thanx

Most major brands are equal. After all they all own a copy of the others software, just to keep up with the competition.
One thing is a litle different however.
I use Nortons Antivirus on my computers but once a month I go to PC-Cillin.com to scan my units. It is amazing how much more PC-Cillin can find than the big name products.
I am going to switch to PC-Cillin next year after my lease licence runs out.
The thing is, you should not rely on one antivirus program all the time, even though they are basically the same.

On a comparaison note AVP "anti viral toolkit pro" scores even better than Norton or Mcafee. In my case it found viruses Norton and Mcafee didn't find after repeated scans.

InoculateIT Personal Edition is free and it is a highly-recommended antivirus software. If I had to make a choice between InoculateIT and McAfee--InoculateIT would win hands down. I run InolculateIT on my "try-everything-on-it" computer and am very happy with it. I run Norton Antivirus 2001 on this computer and have been very happy with it also. I had McAfee, but it became more of a heartache then was worth, so I dumped it.
You can get InoculateIT at the following link. You'll need to also download the MailWatcher program (and I think there is one other called eTrust or something) to get complete coverage...but, it's all free (no spyware either) and it's good.

I have tried Norton and Mcafee.Mcafee has a problem when it comes to updating of virus. Norton quite user friendly

I am using Norton 2001 now and it works fine. I had Mcafee in the past, but had problems with it, as well as their Uninstaller 6 product, which had problems they never seemed to resolve. I would stay away from them.
I used to Run pc-cillin 6 and I really liked that also. They have a newer version now.
I have run the free solutions mentioned above also. InoculateIT and AVG are really nice products, and they're free!

I use McAfee and so does our company. We tried Norton 2000, but it kept giving us problems. I recommend McAfee.

I have used both Mcafee AND norton...when I switched...norton found a virus that mcafee missed. ALSO, Mcafee drains the resources noticeably...and norton never has given me any problems....ALSO, the price for access to updates for Mcafee is 20 bucks a year and 4 bucks a year for Norton...only catch is that Mcafee will still let you update your DAT files but not the program, whereas with norton...if ya don't pay the $4 a year...you can't update anything

Norton is Symantec bloatware, a big piece of expensive junk that you have to pay to keep updated. Mcaffee is the same.
InoculateIT PE is real good, small and updated often. AVG is free, updated slightly less than InoculateIT, bigger and doesn't want European users. On the other hand they offer free Antivirus for non profit organizations (including schools)
Some people recommend having a "backup" AV. I would use InoculateIT if you have only one and AVG as a backup if you wanted. I only use the one

I think that when it comes to utilities such as Antivirus type programs, you will find that everyone will have an opinion based on how their PC reacted to it. Therefore, you will get a wide variety of responses due to the variety of PCs. I can only tell you what has happened on my computer when running these programs. I have had both the McAfee and Norton A/V's but I usually get them with the Utilities such as Norton Works, etc... McAfee gave me occasional problems as far as compatability issues... Norton hasn't given me any problems yet. When I removed McAfee along with it's utilities from my system, it took with it some things like my winsock so I couldn't open any of my browsers... I have also used InocculateITpe, and it worked fine until it had a conflict with some other software... I also have Vcatch... I have no idea if it works, but it runs silently on my system and I haven't gotten any viruses yet... could just be luck, I don't know.. It was free so I figured what the heck!
So far, I really like the Norton System Works which has Antivirus and Fix it type utilities as well as a Quarantine for infected programs...
I guess all a person can do is try them and find which ones work on thier system...
