Just search the internet using the name of your BIOS manufacter (Phoenix, Award, etc.) and the term "beep codes". If upon turning on your computer, a splash screen prevents you from seeing the BIOS manufacturer, in XP go to Start-> Programs -> Accessories -> Sytem Tools -> System Information. in the right-side pane it should list BIOS version/date. Not sure if this is the same in Windows 98 :-) 98% of the population is asleep. The other 2% are staring around in complete amazement, abject terror, or both.
