Hi, I am wanting to back up some files in a directory to floppy disks. The amount of data is only about 5mb. Uncompressed the files will need to span several disks.
What is the simplest way to do this by command line ? I'll then set up a batch file that can be created for referencing in a desktop icon.
Somehow at my local Chinese takeaway the owner persuaded me to try to help !
Thanks
Al

Hi Al, hi everyone
My first thought would be that you could either compress the files with third party DOS utilities like Arj.exe, pkzip.exe*, lharc.exe to one compressed file and copy the compressed file to floppy disk or use another third party DOS utility called Fill.exe which will copy as much data as possible to a floppy disk and than span to the next disk...
* pkzip.exe requires pkunzip.exe to decompress/uncompress the .zip file.

Winzip? It creates comressed (zippped) files - and will allow a span across the necessary number of floppies. The set can also be made to self-extract when required...

Thanks for your very quick replies "The Count" and "trvlr".
I took the advice of downloading arj and hunted around for an old floppy to test backing up the contents of a directory and then restoring.
It seems to work fine for XP. So will take a copy of arj over to the Chinese takeaway this week.
I'll post later in the week.
Thanks again.
Al

Hi Al, trvlr, hi everyone
I have to admit I am pleasantly surprised to see Arj still is alive. :-)
The last copy I have, and have used almost as many years ago, is of over 10 years of age.Now knowing it still is alive and development has continued throughout the years, I am definitely going to check it out again.
Plans are to test the command line utility, still named Arj.exe on Win98, Win2K, WinXP and WinVista...You're very welcome!
Looking forward to your findings later on this week.
