someone set the password in the CMOS or BIOS or whatever it is and i can't get into the settings. can anyone help with this?

Most BIOSes have a built in “back door” password. If your PC has an Award BIOS, try the following passwords, AWARD SW, AWARD_SW, Award SW, AWARD PW, award. . If none of these passwords work, you can try clearing the password from memory instead. To do this, you need to be in MS DOS mode, then type DEBUG and at the prompt enter O 7O 17 O 71 17 Q

sorry, not really postin anything helpful. Just wanted to say; geez Caroline, I'm impressed, I had to write that one down for later use -learn sumthin new every day!

most motherboards have a clear cmos jumper on them. look in the owners manual or at the motherboard, it should be silk screened on the board next to the jumper. if you can not find it, unplug the power cable and remove the cmos battery and push the power button on then off. replace the battery then plug it in and turn on. this will clear all cmos settings, so all of them will need to be reset.
