I got AVG virus scan on my computer because someone told me it was good. I downloaded it and installed it. I had to reboot, so I did. As soon as Windows (95a) loaded, it said there was a virus. I clicked heal and the screen went black. A box came up with an X in a red circle and said that a program did an illigal operation. I clicked close but the computer froze. Now I can only see my backround for a second before the computer goes black and the box shows up again.

I held down CRTL, ALT, DELETE but no programs were opened! I think maybe it thought that Windows95A was a virus because it might be made for Windows 95B or 98. I have a copy of Windows 98 and would like to put it on the computer, but don't know the Minimum requirments. I would like to put Win98 on the computer but I want to know how to load Winodows in Safemode. Holding CTRL doesn't work.

Please Email
Thanks for reading

did the virus window-report is maybe from the antivirus you install ??
If so, this should tell you the next step.
If not, then the hard disk first sector has a problem and can't start OS.
Some antivirus-tools alter the MBR (Master Boot Sector) and the start procedure dont recognize it.

Reboot from your win-floppy and, on command line type this:
fdisk/mbr
to restore the first sector. When you success, hurtle away the AVG damn!

"... because someone told me it was good."

Dude, that someone was doing you a favor, so don't rag him or her out like that!

If you read the information available on the AVG website, you'll see that compatibility with WIN95A isn't an issue. It sounds to me as if AVG found a virus in one of your C:/Windows/System DLL files, the error message should indicate which one it is.
You can try replacing the affected file but personally speaking, I'd reload my OS after backing up my goodies to whatever media you've got handy. (Enter SAFEMODE by holding down F8 after your machine has completed POST)
Again personally speaking, I wouldn't try running WIN98 on anything less than a P200 with 64 meg of RAM ... just my opinion though.

Afa, This is not and English diction, punctuation, or sentence structure site. If you have no value on input to assist the gentleman with his problem than you should find a chat room where your learned skills will be appreciated.

Nothing wrong with AVG. It caught Nimda.E and Sircam on my system before they could do any damage.....
