I want to run DOS Scandisk from an Emergency Recovery Floppy &
Using command scandisk E: /autofix or E:\ Scandisk/autofix

--but don't want a Surface Scan-- or,specifically:
Do no repairs to sectors after the Surface Scan--I’m just being cautious.

I think I understand the commands--

I’m just not sure if Scandisk will stop after the FAT,Directory Structure & File Structure repairs…. Will the “/autofix” command make it rush ahead & do all possible repairs-- even tho I have not specified “/surface” ?

I’m actually planning to run DOS Scandisk with the
Win98 HD [ E:\ ] ----running as SLAVE to WinXP [ C:\ ]

Is the following the best/only way to boot Win98 HD from a floppy at A when I have this setup?

My Plan is to set boot order to A Drive as first in sequence;Boot to A:\,then get an E:\ prompt
---------------
[Actually E:\ name will likely will be puhed back to F:\ by Ramdrive]

PS: I don’t want to boot directly from E:\ as it has viruses.

If your slaving it to your XP drive, why not just run checkdisk on it from XP? Same with virus scan. You won't need to boot E:.

Hi,Dick!

I've already begun extensive repairs w Win98 DOS Scandisk --the one thats on the Emergency Recovery Floppy & i don't think it's wise to change.

I've scanned for viruses--I'll remove them after all data is recovered. They're trojans & access is denied by Norton anti-V.

I'm not sure I'm understanding you, Roark. Do you want to retain 98 on the slave drive or just copy over data to the XP drive, and delete 98?

I'm just salvaging data from WIN98 HD--trying to automate that process.
After that I will remove viruses & files w long filenames [which may have been part of boot problem].
Then I'll return WIN98 HD to it's original PC & reinstall an OS.
