Several months ago my son must have used a program called FAFSA, something to do with student aid online. When my computer starts up I see 'set path=C\FAFSA001'. After doing a search for the file, nothing turned up, so apparently the folder was deleted. However,
'set path=FAFSA001' shows up in autoexec.bat. In simple terms, how can I safely remove this?

Thanks

You can click Start -Run -MSCONFIG and hit enter.

When it loads, click the Autoexec.bat tab, and uncheck that line, or edit that line and replace "FAFSA001" with "C:/windows/system"

But having it there inthe first place is harmless.

open c:\Autoexec.bat with notepad. If you right-click it and select edit it opens in notepad.

just delete the line and save the file.
There is no need to back it up or anything else.
You could even delete the file as Win9x does not need config.sys or autoexec.bat - they are only there for backwards compatability.

I wouldn't delete the file until you're ~sure~ there's nothing in it that may be needed by your system.

What a twisted guy I must be, because I agree with both chappie and Dan on this, despite an implied confliction.

Sure you only need autoexec.bat for DOS working (games etc) and not for running Windows.

But check that there is not an antivirus line in there (some Norton AV version use this). If it's there then autoexec.bat should be retained with the AV line if nothing else.
