Hey again... I was just wondering if the batteries had to be charged for that 'Unidentified Drive' to show up? And if so, then how do you charge it? Because my autobaby doesn't turn on when I press the On switch, but when I plug it in to the computer, the screen turns on... Wierd.

Don't know what an Autobaby is, but if this is a USB connected device the USB cable can supply power to load files. I'm pretty sure that isn't the way to charge batteries. Are you sure the device even has rechargable batteries? If it does, they may need to be removed and placed into a standard charger. When using Win98 and USB devices it is necesary to install drivers for the device. Drivers should have come on a CD.

Yes, the drivers did come on the CD, and I downloaded them. The manual says that to charge the battaries, you can either plug it into the car, or into a USB port. I have it charging right now. I just don't know why my computer doesn't recognize it.

Did you follow the installation instructions? Usually with USB devices the software (drivers) need to be installed prior to connecting the device. Sometimes during the software installation. Charged batteries are most likely necessary to allow the device to function properly. What do the instructions say about that?

P.S: An Autobaby is an MP3 Player.

The instructions are actually quite useless when it comes to installing the drivers and connecting the device to the USB port. I just assumed that the batteries were already charged.

Devices with rechargeable batteries do not normally come with the batteries charged.

I had the same problem with recharging the batteries and you are right that the instruction manual is no help. When your MP3 player is plugged in using the USB, it will recharge the unit only if you have the switch in the "ON" position. It takes about 4 - 6 hours to fully recharge. As for your Windows 98 problem, go to www.autobaby.ca and download the proper driver. Hope this helps

I had the "unidentified device" thing too but when I went to the www.autobaby.ca site and downloaded their driver, everything worked okay. As for the clearing of memory, inisert the Autobaby into your USP port, go to Windows media player and click on PORTABLE DEVICE on the left side. Then on the right hand side of the player screen on the top there's an "X" button. Click on that to delete selected files or all files on the player.

The user's manual is useless. I've had to learn to use the device through trial and error (and with much frustration). I've been downloading MP3 radio shows (perhaps it's the same procedure as for songs) by plugging in my unit directly to the USB port, right clicking on the download feature to "SAVE TARGET AS" onto the Autobaby driver file [the icon is simply a yellow file folder]which should have been saved onto the desktop for easy location via the autobaby driver download from the autobaby website). After it's downloaded into the folder, open it up with Windows Media player and when the player screen pops up, click on PORTABLE DEVICE on the left side. Then on the top of the screen there's a button that says "COPY MUSIC" you click on the save the file from the folder onto your autobaby. I have Windows 98 SE on my computer too and that's how I've been using my unit.
