I have installed a new hard disk due to disk failure and installed it with Win98se. Now I can't find the audio driver for my HP Pavilion 8988. No sound now. Can anyone help me.....

http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/audiodriver.htm
You will have to determine the sound card model used on your computer. The i845 motherboard used on HP 8988 Pavilion may have AC97 or Creative or other sound card model. There are no sound drivers on HP site for this model. The sound card is on the motherboard and if you can access this area of the PC use a flashlight and go directly read the model number on the sound chip usually about 1 in. square in size.Look for a name like Creative, Crystal ,AC97 with some figures. You can visit the two sites above to find more details and also try the sound drivers used with this motherboard model.Good luck.

Thanks Petit.
I found that my motherboard is Asustek P4B-LA rev 1.03. It is using intel 845 chipset. Saw the chip on the motherboard, but I can't find the motherboard on asustek website. I have tried the Intel & matsonic websites, but doesn't help. Still like to thank you for your advices.

Hi Petit,
I found the audio driver finally. I search the asustek website and managed to get into their download website. I downloaded a audio driver filename "alc201_w9x.zip" version 2.60 from the motherboard P4B-LX. There's no P4B-LA, that's why I tried P4B-LX. Very lucky. That audio driver works on my motherboard.
