I'm in a really bad bind. My IE6 won't open new windows properly. THAT'S NOTHING. ...

I was already in habit of right-clicking, then copying the urls, when I realized that I can't download Critical Updates either. BIG PROBLEM.

I go to windowsupdate.microsoft, and do everything I'm supposed to, then when the small download window opens ('Accept'), the browser freezes. Then crashes.

Never fails.

---

After that, this info comes up as the problem.

Microsoft Internet Explorer
AppName: iexplore.exe
Offset: 00040894
ModName: rpcrt4.dll

So I tried downloading rpcrt4.zip and led my browzer (Opera) to unzip it into Windows/System/ -- But it will NOT override the old dll and continues to say it's in process.

I've also uninstalled iexplore and then re-downloaded it, and re-installed.

What has happened to my IE and what do I need to do to fix it??

Thanks Guys.

Hi

Did a quick search

Try replacing the dll

Below is a bit from this link which explains it better

http://www.springfieldtech.com/Support/Errors/Rpcrt4_Boot.htm

"Win 98
After installation or on a boot you might receive the above error trying to open My Computer.
To fix this problem put the 98 cdrom in the drive, go to Start / Run type: sfc click OK, select Extract on file from the installation disk, type rpcrt4.dll, click start, when finished reboot.

Note: rpcrt4.dll is Windows 98 Remote Procedure Call dynamic link library file and is corrupted. "

run "sfc" is the same as clicking (START /programs/asseccories/system tools/system information /tools/System file checker)

Whatif my Windows 98 cd isn't partial to just installing a file or two? When I put it in, it wipes the hard disk clean and re-installs the whole system.

Hi

Just a thought, is what you have a quick restore disk only? I haven't worked with one of those, but what happens if you HOLD the Shift key down when you insert the win98 cd. (and hold the key down until the cd has spun up and quitened down - about 10 sec usually)

The shift key keeps the cd from loading autorun. If it does run then just exit the setup process. If the shift key stops the cd from loading autorun then

Put the cd in after you have the System file checker up on the screen if it makes you feel safer (holding the shift key down). It should not install 98. You definitly do not reinstall but extract 1 file only - the missing dll. After sucsessful extraction if IE doesn't work then reinstall again.

Go to the Windows folder and right click on oleaut32.dll and select Properties.

Select the Version tab.

What version do you have?

Good Day!

Hello again everyone,

Are you using Internet Explorer 6.0.

The version you have is for WinXP and IE6.

Open Internet Explorer and click on Help.

Select "About Internet Explorer" and post back with the version of it.

Best Regards,
Mesich
