I have just installed Windows 98 on my PC, and am having some trouble with my 3D card. After I used the installation CD that came with it, and rebooted my machine, windows froze every time it finished loading. I started in safe mode, and changed the hardware acceleration rate. My computer will only work if hardware acceleration is set to none. And in this state, the computer freezes if I try to change the resolution or colour quality. I know the hardware is working fine, as it worked fine when I had windows XP installed on the same machine. And I know it will work with windows 98, because before I had windows XP installed, I had Windows 98.

Any idea what the heck is going on?

ATI has bad drivers atleast for the Rage series cards not the Radeons and I should know cause i'm stuck with the card you have but only its PCI :p Any ways go over to http://www.ati.com and download the newest drivers im postive it will fix the problem.

I'm running this card on Win98 with no problems. Keep in mind as you download and install the ATI drivers that in the instructions you need to install at least DirectX 8.0 or you will have the problems mentioned above. One other thing if the motherboard has a VIA chip set you need to install the 4 in 1 drivers FIRST before any thing else then proceed to install your other drivers.

Okay, I installed Direct X 9.0, and that let me set my colour quality to 32-bit. But it still freezes when I try to change me resolution, and Hardware Acceleration still needs to be set to "None". I saw a CD for VIA drivers when I was digging through my things, so I will try installing that, but I think it may have been for my old motherboard. But I'll try that and update you.
