I am writing for my brother-in-law since he no longer has access to the internet. The problem is when he attempts to sign on to Aol he can't view the page. He gets two messages (ACSD has caused and invalid page fault in modual WINNMM. dll @ 017;BFDF6633). The other message is (UPPREPOP cansed invalid page fault in module MSVCRT. dll @ 0177;78002A67). Does he need to reinstall Aol or Win 98. If he has to reinstall win98 is there a way to do so as to not loose everything on his hard drive. Any advice will be appreciated.

First of all I would download and do a complete Adaware Scan. Make sure he updates it first.

Then I would put my windows cd in and go to start run

type in SFC and do a compete scan for corrupted files. It will prompt you to replace the file and let you know if it is overwritten.

Now he should also search his hardrive to see how many of each of those files he has.

msvcrt.dll
WINMM. dll

First, do the housecleaning steps outlined above. Second run SCANDISK and DEFRAG in SAFE MODE. Third, if the above steps don't cure it), do in install of Windows on top of itself. He won't lose any of his data. If there are still problems with AOL, then remove the current version of AOL (Add / Remove Programs) and re-install it. It will save his PFC and Favorites info.

So good to see someone else with this problem. Spent a good while with tech support at AOL and Dell.

Solution: Start--Run msconfig--Startup
Unselect everything that is checked except:
ScanRegistry, Task Monitor, System Tray, Load Power Profile.

Then restart and see if AOL works. I have then gone back and rechecked BlackIce, Norton, etc. Adding things one at a time. So far everything works.

Good luck.
