Hello, I am trying to install AOL from their site because my computer freezes in the program, but when I get the 560K download done and it goes to execute, I get what everyone calls "the blue screen of DEATH." Is their any way that I can install AOL without it currupting? Also, I have tried uninstalling my current version.

hi
i believe you can get a free cd of aol at wal-mart or best buy, circuit city.be alot easier to have the cd.this way comp messes up you will have it ready to install.

"You probably need a more powerful pc to run aol9 properly,,imho"
No offence, but I doubt this.
I don't really have an answer to your immediate problem, and I'm not trying to come across as an AOL Basher, but......
I ran AOL 5.0 through 7.0. I applied for, and was accepted, as a Beta tester for 8.0. A month or two into the testing I responded to AOL with "concerns", which were never acknowledged (read ignored). I ~always~ had problems with the way they do things and the control they impose over you and your system. To them I was a renegade. They are one of the reasons I started to learn how to "hack" the registry. Just too much sh!t and no control over it. Plus the price could certainly be better. Visit the Langalist archives and do a search about the controls which AOL puts in place, without your knowledge or permission, it's an eye opener.
For the same cost (usually better if you hunt around) you'll get better, cleaner, more responsible service from another ISP.

Your computer should be plenty powerful enough to run AOL 9.0. I'm running it on a P2, 233. Should install from a CD can get anywhere. You don't mention whether you have broadband cable or DSL. That would be the key to AOL 9. That's what it's designed for. As for the opinion about AOL. Everyone entitled to their opionion.

The reason I posted that, I`d been having constant crashes with AOL 9,, and not my other isp,, for months. I run an AMD-k6 450 mhz, with 192 ram, 80 gig hd.
I`d called AOL and asked and complained ,,etc,,,no avail.
They even sent me a free modem. Finally I went to the AOL tech chat room, and in there they said my pc was`nt powerful enough to handle AOL 9, and suggested I revert to AOL7,,which I did.
Although I still have occasional crashes,, explorer related, it`s nothing like it was. I have yet to have had just an waol crash.
I`m just sayin,,,

bet, I had a P120 with 96MB ram and a 6GB HDD when I was running AOL. I too asked about "upgrading" when the new versions became available. They told me the same thing. "You should have a better more powerful machine to run the next version". It was bullhonk. They all ran fine once I'd upgraded.
"I`d called AOL and asked and complained ,,etc,,,no avail."
This is what I was talking about. Their "support" is terrible. I knew more than the techs there. I'd bring up registry entry modifications in the discussions and they'd just say "Huh?"
This is only my opinion of AOL based upon my experience with them.
