i think i got some kind of virus on my computer. i have aol and one day my password was changed and i didn't change it. i called aol and they said someone probably installed what they call a "torjan horse" program on my computer. today i got an error after doing nothing, i started up my computer, signed onto aol, and went to get a snack, and when i came back i saw an error that said "FDICopy() failed: code 8 [failure writing to target file]" it just said the message there was no title in the title bar. i saw this message was on my screen and on the taskbar it was a blank box. i didn't click on a link in aol or on a website once i signed on, it just happened. someone please help! should i delete my aol account to stop this or something? or is there an antivirus program that will stop this? i have win98, 266mhz pentium 2, aol 5.0, 64mb memory, and it is an IBM thinkpad i1720. I am really worried about this!

well a trojan really ain't a virus. Its classified as a virus because what it does it allow the person who went you that trojan to, well at worst, control your computer and fool around with it. Its possible someone sent you a file with it and messed with your computer without you knowing. A very nice antivirus program is www.avp.com. Its a great one. Macafee and norton both suck, so use this one :). And if it ain't a virus, something probably just went wrong with your computer.

first look at your win.ini file
on the line load= or run=
if you see and program running from these check it out.
the one I ran acrossed had a smiley face.
or run antivirus program.
either way if you find it you most likely will have to delete the file or files in Dos.

Then you can remove the load= or run= line.

you should search your computer with anti-virus and try and get more info on this.
but this should at least stop it from running.

also you might want to change passwords of any other important sites that have been emailed to you.

Mike...Password stealing trojan horses are very common on aol and usually will be in a email to you from someone on your buddy list and this email will have an attatchment and you thinking that it came from a buddy...you open it and thats how you get it most of the time...I would suggest you go to www.simplysup.com and download his trojan remover....And you might want to as a precaution notify everyone on your buddy list and in your address book not to open any attatchments in a email coming from you until you find out if the password stealing trojan is on your computer...I went threw all of this a long time ago and it was no fun and the trojan remover at the site I just recommended caught it and got rid of it...Good Luck...Ashley
