Hi, Is there a freeware product that will tell me anything about people who call while I'm online (dialup), without having caller ID? Thanks, John

Without caller ID service the necessary information to determine the caller is not provided by the phone company so there wouldn't be anything for the software to retrieve. At a minimum I think you'd need a V92 modem and caller ID service.

Hi Dave, I thought there might be some package that would allow you to listen to the caller, or record the message, like an answering machine would do. John

I believe there's third party hardware that can switch an incoming signal to an answering machine while you're online but I'm sure you need call waiting for that. I got caller ID and call waiting and some other stuff in one package and was thinking they were both the same thing. Anyway, you'll need at least some extra phone company sevices. Otherwise anyone that calls just gets a busy signal and, as I mentioned above, there's nothing for any software to retrieve.
Some place like Radio Shack would probably have the switching equipment. You might check there. Or someone may post in if they know of something specific.
