While researching more on these cameras I see that some come with two cables, a 'USB cable for communications with PC' & a 'serial cable for communications with PC'. This seems to be another alernative for tranfer. Would this serial cable work with Windows 95 better than the USB cable? I realise there may be a difference in the speed but if I can find anyway to use a digital camera on Win 95 I'd be very happy.
If anyone needs to look, my previous question on this is at post # 98570
Thanks for any help.

If you are running Windows 95, you may or may not have USB support. If there was a USB port built into the machine when you bought it, there is a good chance that your version of Win-95 has it. To be certain, read the info on this link:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q253756

Given a choice between using a regular serial connection or a USB with the same device, go with the USB - it's better for several reasons, including speed. On the other hand, the reason some cameras are sold with both is because there are still some folks who haven't upgraded from Win-95 and who don't have the newer USB port on their machines.

Win95 will not support U.S.B. unless you have
2nd. edition. Even then it is not stable.
Use your serial port, you will be a lot happier. You may find a conflict with your mouse or your modem

Reading the previous post you left a link to I did tell you in that post that using win95 a SERIAL cable would be the more sensible way to go. Yes I know it will slow down the download speed but better to slow down downloads than crash computer.

On my Win98 I ahd serial port and they uploaded at a rate of 1 pic per 1 minute and 13 seconds each. With the USB I can transfer 26 pics in less than 2 seconds.
Serial for 26 pics = 31.6 minutes
USb for 26 pics = 2 seconds

If you can get USB to work it is FAR better.
