Comment:

My company, having made a decision to move all of their 5000 PC's to Office from Smartsuite have encountered a problem, mainly their Ami Pro documents. All of the documents have a header which consists of a table inside a frame which repeats on all pages... This does not convert over to Microsoft Excel. Does anyone know of any easy way to do this without us having to rewrite over 1000 documents.

Thanks.

Please keep me posted by forwarding what you find in re: to converting Ami Pro documents to Word 97.

I need to do the same, and have not, despite searching the web and Microsofts site, a converter, or anything for that matter, that works.

Passing on what you learn would be greatly appreciated.

I am a biology teacher who has exams, testa, labs and quizzes written in Amipro. I want to convert all of them to Microsoft Word. I know I'll have to "clean up" the documents, but it beats typing them all over again. How do I do this?

I'm looking for a utility which can convert from word97 to amipro. It's required to solve a problem with sending forms to an out of date system. If anybody knows of anything it would be very helpful.

I have +/- 2500 workstations we are migrating from Lotus SmartSuite to MS-Office 2000. I have a number of problems with regards to file formats and Document conversions.
How do I convert AmiPro to Word 2000 format without losing quality?

How do I convert Lotus macros to Excel 2000?

I could succesfully convert Freelance Graphics to Power-Point with the native filter build into PowerPoint 2000.

Please Mail me on jacq@iafrica.com any help will be appreciated.

I tried to download the file ftp://pembroke-int.com/pub/web45422/dcmnt24.zip referred to by Ace but it was unobtainable. Perhaps the company found that there were too many free downloads?

Any other suggestions?

In case you didn’t yet find a solution for your problem: I have found one after long nights of searching the web and loading down all kind of useless stuff.
I found an appropriate software at www.infoaccess.com. they have a 30-days-evaluation-download. there’s just one snag: its size is almost 17 MB. With a 56k-Modem the download time is around one hour.
After opening the program, press the button „add document“ on the right side, select „file system“ and choose your .sam-file (or almost any kind of file you like). Now you get a HTML-version of your document, though without paragraphs, but at least without those odd headers. Now mark all, copy it (Ctrl+C) and insert it (Ctrl+V) in any other document, e.g. a Microsoft one.
Hope I could save a life. uwe_haleksy@bigfoot.de

I couldn't get the link "http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q120/9/76.asp?FR=0" so I did a search using "amipro document conversion".
Eventually, I found out that it's in the Office 2000 Resource Kit.

http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/appndx/toolbox.htm

Look for Convpack.exe (it's 12.1 MB)

By the way, the knowledge base article is Q212265

Quick Solution: (Just 230k!)
Just search and download Ami332.cnv, copy it into the ...\Microsoft Shared\TextConv folder
and add with regedit for Word95:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Word\7.0\Text Converters\Export\Amipro Dokument]
"Extensions"="sam"
"Name"="Amipro Dokument"
"Path"="C:\\Programme\\Gemeinsame Dateien\\Microsoft Shared\\Textconv\\AMI332.CNV"
(Path to the Ami332.cnv)
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Word\7.0\Text Converters\Import\Amipro Dokument]
"Extensions"="sam"
"Name"="Amipro Dokument"
"Path"="C:\\Programme\\Gemeinsame Dateien\\Microsoft Shared\\Textconv\\AMI332.CNV"
(Path to the Ami332.cnv)

for Word97:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Word\Text Converters\Import\Amipro Dokument]
"Extensions"="sam"
"Name"="Amipro Dokument"
"Path"="C:\\Programme\\Gemeinsame Dateien\\Microsoft Shared\\Textconv\\AMI332.CNV"
(Path to the Ami332.cnv)
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Word\Text Converters\Export\Amipro Dokument]
"Extensions"="sam"
"Name"="Amipro Dokument"
"Path"="C:\\Programme\\Gemeinsame Dateien\\Microsoft Shared\\Textconv\\AMI332.CNV"
(Path to the Ami332.cnv)

For Word 2000 Registry entry find the "Text Converters"-Key in the Registry and do the same.

That's it: legal and free forever

I'm not quite sure how I got there, but this download worked for me. (Following the address is the directions given at the page.)

http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/appa/appa.htm#dex19

"To install the converter for Lotus Ami Pro

If Word is running, close it.

Download and run Ami332.exe (269 KB).

Restart Word.

To properly register the converter so it can be used by Word, open an Ami Pro document or another file that is in a format other than Word's native Doc format — for example any text file.
Once the converter is properly installed and registered, the new file format will appear in the File of type boxes in the Open and Save As dialog boxes."
