Can anyone tell me what kind of jack/socket connects the satellite speakers to the subwoofer?
I want to get an extension cable.
I did email them but they are "unable to tell me".

Just look at the socket and go to Radio Shack. It's either a regular stereo jack, or a RCA connection. Take the speakers with you to make sure you get the right ones, Radio Shack isn't known for brains.

It is definitely not either of them, it is an unusual type.
And I'm not in USA so most places here would have to order them in.
And I'm out in the sticks with no transport of my own, so its difficult to bring them anywhere.

I've only seen regular stereo or rca phono plugs but it might be something made just for altec. They should be able to tell you, harrass them a little. Or cut the cable you have now in the middle and add more wire to make it longer

I just went to altec lansing's site. They said Radio Shack or any good electronics store has the connectors and cables. If the cable is permanently attached to the speaker, take the speaker apart and add more cable, or cut it in the middle.

the connectors from the speakers are NOT rca phono plugs or mini stereo plugs. they are miniature DIN plugs. i too want some extension cords, but i have yet to get to a radio shack or similar store. i imagine they have it or can get it.

Hi Jim,
Do you get an yellow light when you plug in your speaker? If so, the speaker is back on the default mode. To get it working again, hold down the center button until the light turns green. Then you can adjust all other ones.
Btw, as for the drivers, I am still looking for that. I went to www.altecmm.com download site, they have the file called AMS24.EXE, not sure if this file works or not. As for the Dell website above, I can't get to it as the website address it too long can I can't copy it directly. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi there, I did download the drivers for W98 from Dell. Evereything looks W98 (even the read.me file) until you try to install the thing and it reports 'THIS IS A W95 VERSION, restart your computer in W95 mode'. So much for that download.

Hi!

My Windows 2000 system seems to dislike my Altec Lansing ACS495 speakers and all driver software that I've found seems obsolete. Are there any working drivers out there or a way to enable support for the speaker system?

Here's a good challenge for someone (and ME, for sure!)
I have the ACD495 and just lost all sound.
I was listening to an MP3 and got 2 ICQ voice prompts simultaneously, then the speaker system just quit. No noise at all. A test of the soundcard (SB Live Value) with head phones shows it's working; the ACS495 has power; the fuse is intact; but no sound at all...
Any thoughts ? Anyone ?

too all whome are concerned Altec Lanceings are among prehaps the best Pc orianted Speaker Sysytems made, however looking at the recent rma's i found a bad outlook on the whole altec lanceing sound Blaster live value thing i have the same problem as described above but i can take mine back, so if you plan on buying new speakers altec's are a good brand but the ACS495s may not be the right buy for a sb live

lincoln, run here the acs495 on a sound blaster live value for more than a year!
Excelent speaker set, can't buy another one for my son here in Europe the Netherlands! Mine was delivered with Dell PC.
Can't buy it! year 2000. Can you believe this? The nearest available "alternative" is ADA305.
Could believe this if it was some bottom line value product!
Any one?

I've got the 305's and the audio management software refuses to install as my "operating system does not support USB" even though I'm running Windows 2000.

Is running the speakers through USB worth it? - or should I just stick with the standard sound card method?
