I bought a ASUS A8N-E motherboard and a ASUS A9550GE Graphic card. The motherboard has no AGP slot (only PCI Express X16) where the graphic card seems like an AGP series sort of card. I tried to insert the graphic card to the PCI slot but nothing came out from my monitor. Looks like I did not check properly b4 I bought them but I was just wondering that if there is anything like AGP to PCI adapter available int he market? Help!! I have been saving for more than a year to buy a PC :(

No such thing I am afraid. The AGP bus is an extension of the PCI bus with a higher frequency, 66 v 33 MHz, and 64 bits instead of 32 bits.

Trying to force an AGP card into a PCI slot is a very good way to destroy both video card and motherboard. How you managed to even do that is beyond me as they are different sizes.

The AGP card can slot in the PCI Express x16 slot pretty easily indeed. The PCI express x16 has two discontnue slots (one short and one long); whereas the AGP card also has two blocks of chipsets but both can fit in the longer PCI slot, which means that the shorter PCI slot is unoccupied.

I couldn't find any other slots on the motherboard that can fit perfectly to my AGP graphic card. Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

Your motherboard supports PCI express and your video card is AGP.If you bought them at the same place seems maybe they should at least do an exchange.Their sales should recognize mismatched equipment when you get it.I would get on the phone.

anyway, I was reading this article from
http://www.behardware.com/news/7548/Adaptateur-AGP-pour-PCI-E.html

about the AGP to PCI adapter and am thinking to give it a try (which means I have to go deeper to my pocket :(

Any comments?

PCIe cards are now cheaper than AGP and have better performance. You would probably be better off buying a low end card and use that until you can afford a good one.
