I have gotten my system to go to the start up screen ONCE..but every time i clicked on something it would give me a fatal error or something about the memory..can anyone help????????? I do have access to a lap top if that helps any at all

I would suggest booting with a floppy and running scandisk on the hard drive. Maybe even getting a hard drive diagnostic from the manufacturers web site.

i have booting with the floppy...i (or we) i had a technical walk through..had to create one because there were files missing on the boot disk... and i have gotten to the point where it will run a scan disk...it is showing errors on my hard drive but i select REPAIR as an option... so going to the manufacturers web site and getting a drive diagnostic is the next thing i should do huh???

Have you tried scandisk with 'thorough' instead of 'standard'? that would be the next thing to try. I hope it's under warranty because it sure sounds like it might be defective. The thorough test will give a better indication though.

I should have mentioned that a 'thorough' test will take quite a while. It writes and reads every sector on the drive. It doesn't normally destroy any data however.

Sorry! For your info....When you start scandisk under Windows it gives you the option to run 'Standard' or 'thorough'. I forgot that you don't get that option under Dos. Be aware that when you go to the manufacturer for relief they 'might' insist that you run their diagnostic first.

Well you might be able to talk to the people that you bought the drive from. It all depends on who is responsible. Sometimes the seller is responsible and sometimes the manufacturer.

You said "...something about the memory..." was part of an error message. Remove the memory and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser or if you think they are gold wet a rag with rubbing alcohol and really polish the contacts. Then reinstall the memory. If Scandisk hasn't done it for you, that is.
