The question should be 'What are the advantages of Win98 over Win95' from what I've seen in this forum and other sources the answer is 'Not a whole lot'. Lots of people seem to be having more trouble than Win95, I'm glad I wasn't one of the 6 Billion people on the planet who rushed out and bought it. Can't wait to see what happens when Win2000 comes out later this year or early next year, they're having trouble with it now.

I am a 3rd year Software Engineering student.
Here are a some pointers regarding which operating system to choose:windows 95..has 32-bit and 16-bit code nativity.
Has embedded msdos within os. Has graphical user interface and a satisfactory array of driver support for some hardware. Better memory handling than windows 3.1. Better looking and simpler to install and use.windows 98second edition. Has very good driver support. Includes many of the Service packs that windows 95 needed. Improved multimedia and directx support. Integrates IE into GUI. Higher stability and includes USB functionality.
Windows NT- used for businesses. High level of stability and security. Full 32-bit nativity. Removes DOS. uses NTFS Secure file alloctation table. Robust. very slow but very good network connectivity. Steep hardware resources needed to run it. ease of use of windows 95/98.
windows 2000. Same as above but improved multimedia support. improved interface and stability. Less system crashes and higher connectivity to plug and play hardware esp. USB devices.
UNIX - I love it. which version? Sun solaris. Excellent IDE's and network connectivity. Free from SUN.
Linux - I love you second. Lets talk about Free. Excellent network connectivity. especially when running apache etc....
excellent OS to develope java,C and cobol applications :)
kernel 6.2(redhat)MS -Dos was a good operating system. Especially in the good old days of computing though unlike windows 95/98 etc... it was impossible to do multi-tasking and all the other good stuff that other OS's offered.
email me for any Questions.
