help! I'm trying to change the bass and the treble on my desktop Compaq Presario speakers. For some reason I can click on the advanced button on the lower left of my volume control box but the arrows to adjust the bass and treble are grayed out. Does it have something to do with needing a soundcard? How would I know if I already have a sound card? Please respond if you have the remotest clue!

If you won't have sound card you won't have had a volume icon. Go to control panel\system\device manager tab and see if your sound card is listed there.

Jan,
You have a sound card. It's built into the motherboard on this computer. However your sound card does not support these advanced features, and that is why they are grayed out.
