experiencing a mysterious problem with Adobe acrobat reader. Ver. 4 suddenly screwed up, was getting "invalid page fault at MSCRTV.dll. Couldn't get this corrected, went to adobe site and got ver 5.0. Now I have same fault but with COOLTYPE.dll
found 4 instances of this file, one in adobe dir, one in win/system32/Adobe dir, and 2 in win/temp.

Anyone know exactly what to do here?

Uninstall Acro4 and 5.

Delete Temp files.

Delete Acrobat directories.

Install Acrobat 5.

Adobe was never too good about installing newer versions over old versions. They always tell you to uninstall first.

My system must be special because I installed v5 over v4 yesterday and it tested out fine. V5 has a few more features with a better gui.

Sorry, I am mistaken; it was v5 over v3.

Actually I was thinking of 4 over 3. If you uninstall 3 after installing 4, it broke 4.

They ended up putting a warning message in the install. It works ok until you try to remove old versions.

I wish they would get it right. I went through the uninstall 4 then install 5 only to have it not work right. I saved the download engine so deleted five reinstalled four then put five on top and it works fine. Unless you pay the 4-500 for the whole program it must be their way of saying too bad for you...........
