My adobe acrobat reader version 5 was working ok about 15 days before. In the meanwhile I did not use it. Now when I am on the net and want to download or view a pdf file the reader does not come up instead google website comes up on screen.
I dont remember doing anything that could upset the reader . Please help.

It sounds like explorer might somehow have become the program associated with pdf files- is google your homepage?

If you check your file associations- is acrobat still the application associated with pdf files?

If it's not, change it back by left clicking once on a pdf document on your hard-drive, then hold shift and right click on it, select OPEN WITH, choose acrobat reader from the menu, and tick the 'always open this program with this type of file' checkbox.

thanks jamsta for your answer.
I checked the file associations and pdf files are associated with acrobat reader.

No google is not my home page. My home page is yahoo.com

I have checked the system with adaware, spybot and avg antivirus and all have reported as clean.

I also tried to download about a dozen of pdf files by rt clicking on them and choosing save target as but leechget downloader does not download them and reports that files have been relocated.

So the problem is still there. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The problem is solved.
At the same time I was also searching google for trouble shooting adobe acrobat reader and I found the answer.
I opened acrobat reader. Went to edit--preferences--options and took the check mark off beside display pdf in browser.
Now when I click a pdf file to download or view on internet I am being given an option of saving to disk or opening it.
I have tried both the options and they are working .
Thanks a lot .

No the problem is not solved. After using the computer for a while then I closed it. I opened the computer today and it again started doing the same thing as it was doing before. It is again going to the google page when I try to download a pdf file.
I then uninstalled and installed version 6 of the acrobat reader but this new installation has not changed the behaviour and it is still going to google instead downloading a pdf file.
Please help.
