As a general rule, if you are adding a second hard disk to an existing PC sytem (that already has a HD on one of the IDE controllers and the CDrom and the other i.e.), which IDE controller should you make this new HD a slave, the one with the existing HD, or the one with the CDROM? Any performance giudelines to which is better? How about the same scenario with adding a CDR to a system? Any opinions/facts out there? Thanks for any and all feedback.

I was told that you could slave the new hd right on the same ribbon as your primary hd is connected. They said It would not slow the system down. Brad.......

We slaved our second hard drive using the same ribbon as that for the master hard drive without any noticeable reduction in performance. It was easy, but make sure that the jumpers for the master and slave are set correctly and enter setup at boot to get the BIOS to detect the slave drive.

Thanks for the feedback. I added the new HD as a slave on the primary IDE controller, no noticeable problems with performance. I actually came across a third HD and set that one up as slave to the CDROM, no problems either. Case closed. Thanks again.
