Hi:I have noticed lately when I came To this great site a popup ad during Entring to this Forum
However I do not care about this popup but the problems is
my adaware program report that this popup include a spyware
and it advice me TO removed .
thanks .

There are programs to prevent pop-up ads from appearing, but they can hinder other browser functions.
Probably, the Spyware detection software is calling it a "bad cookie." There is a great Freeware program by AnalogX called "Cookie Wall." You can tell it which cookies to delete and which cookies to accept, if any.
Hope this helps. If not, how about a little more info, such as what Spyware detection software and what's the exact message.
Best Luck
Bob

The pop-up you are receiving and what
Ad-Aware is detecting is not Spyware.
Is is a form of ad-ware and is harmless.DoubleClick is what Ad-Aware is detecting.
You will get it from many sites to include Yahoo and others.

Hi:again

Right, it is doubleclick which you will get in many sites this one included. Yahoo, Excite, CNN.
It is not just this site is what I am trying to say but alot of other well known sites.
It is also nothing to be too concerned about.HTH
Good Day!

Doubleclick *is* considered Spyware and should not be left on your computer. Use a cookie-preventer type software like the one mentioned above - it's good quality Freeware.
With regards to whether doubleclick is Spyware, here's a link:
http://www.safersite.com/PestInfo/D/DoubleClickSpyware.asp
Search for Doubleclick Spyware on Google to find many discussions and articles on the subject.
Doubleclick does *not* "get you into sites" and it will have no effect on your browsing if doubleclick cookies are deleted. Where do you get this stuff?

From post above:
"The pop-up you are receiving and what
Ad-Aware is detecting is not Spyware.
Is is a form of ad-ware and is harmless"Used to be Ad-ware just showed ads. No longer the case. Now I don't know of any Adware that doesn't track your surfing and ad-viewing history. The terms Adware and Spyware have become synonamous.

Link to DoubleClick for their side of the story!

Here is also a previous post from the owner/webmaster of computing.net on doubleclick.

Here you go, right from your link:)
"DoubleClick does use information about your browser and web surfing to determine which ads to show your browser."
It does this by tracking your Internet use to see which types of sites you visit and which ads you have already seen. The definition of Spyware, if you ask me.
Again, there are many discussions and articles about this from many sources. There have been past cases where Adware makers have not been entirely truthful about what their software was doing, and what their software is capable of.

If I go to a friends house and he smokes cigars. If it bothers me that much I stop going there.
If I enjoy his company more than I mind the smoke then I continue to go there.I do not just reach out, grab his cigar and throw it away.
On a side note: during the conversations I have with this smoking friend he has a tendency to ask me what I did today and where did I go. He uses this information to make a basis for further conversation.
He however does not usually try to sell me anything. If ads pay for the site should I not want it to try to sell me something I might be interested in buying.

Katrena & anyone interested. To eliminate the doubleclick problem do the following. Open Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options, Under the "Security" tab click the "Restricted Sites" icon to hilite it, click the "Sites" button and in the "Add this site to the zone" narrow window type exactly as shown below
*.doubleclick.com click the "Add" button.
*.doubleclick.net click the "Add" button.
While you're at it you may as well do these 2 also as they are Spyware cookies also.
*.flycast.com click the "Add" button
*.valueclick.com click the "Add" button.Do the above entries one at a time and when you have the 4 entries added click "OK", "OK".
These cookies will not be loaded on your computer anymore and Ad-aware won't report them anymore. Hope this helps.

I got this reg file from Krystyna. Download it and double click it to add the information to the registry. It blocks cookies from a number of sites including doubleclick. To see whats inside open it with notepad.

Hey Bryco,
It would be difficult for your friend to smoke a cigar without you knowing it! How about if he snuck cigar tobacco into your sandwich without telling you?

I know these cookies are loaded onto my PC because I come here every day and every day I clean out the cookies when I am done. My friend cleans his ashtray every day too.
If he stick a cigar in my sandwich I wouldn't go to his house any more.
So if you do not like Justin's behavior then you too have the option to not take a visit at his house.
Every party attracts a certain amount of rif-raf and if Justin's party gets too many of them then this is the reason I would stop visiting.
(Just my opinion)
Bryan

Create a text file and copy the following into it:
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 www.doubleclick.net
127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net
127.0.0.1 m.doubleclick.net
127.0.0.1 phase2media.doubleclick.net
127.0.0.1 ln.doubleclick.net
127.0.0.1 ad.au.doubleclick.netRename the file "hosts" (no quotes and no extension) and put it in C:\Windows. Goodbye Doubleclick!!

Hi Bryan, hi everyone,
Bryan (#18)... that's a wonderful solution I read on this board some weeks ago! very useful for any unwanted connection from the computer to the network (Internet or any) eg. Spyware, Ad popups, integrated Ad frames, porn sites, dangerous sites for children, etc.
C:\Windows\Hosts

Hi,
Just some additional info to explain if necessary:
Hosts is a file located on the workstation and designed to speed up connection to the Network (a kind of DNS).
For any connection request, Windows routines will check 'Hosts' to see whether it could find a path there; if found, it will use it.So doubleclick being found, windows will go to the address 127.0.0.1 ie to your own local disk and will return 'nothing'!
Connections will be speeded!Of course, you can enter a line for any site you want to block!
