Ok, I recently upgraded to the newest adaware. The first time I ran it, it found 2 references in the registry to something suspicious, it thought was alexa? I didn't do anything, as I didn't know what it was. I thought perhaps it had something to do with a search engine highjacking I had months ago. I long since went into the registry and deleted the file from running at startup. Well, I downloaded the lavasoft refupdate and ran it a couple of days ago. This time it found 185 entries in the registry that it said were related to alexa. Does anyone know what this is? How in the world are they getting in my registry. I am afraid to let adaware delete all those entries in the registry, for fear it may really mess up my computer. If anyone can shed any light on this for me, I'd really appreciate it. Should I let adaware get rid of the entries?

its just another spywayre program. i found 279 entries with my ad-aware after i updated it, all related to something called "b3d". deleted them all, no problem.

stuff like "free programs" are one culprit for shoving spyware on your pc...the p2p prog kazaa alone makes over 200 registry entries.(along with the rest including b3d) when you install it.

StartCop, a nice utility from PC-Magazine will let you deactivate any program set to run from the registry, the startup folder, or any of the 6 ways a program can start up.

I have the StartCop icon on my desktop. I regularly run it to make sure any spyware/adware etc. hasn't burrowed into my computer. It's easy to disable unwanted software.

I don't know the answer but what puzzled me is they these alexa entries appeared to be linked to Internet Explorer (if not part of it).
I let Ad-Aware delete the lot and have had no trouble. Ad-Aware has an "undo" facility anyway.

Hey, guys, I've been doing a little more research about this. Here is a page I found about these entries. What do you think?
