I have installed a backpack cd-rewriter drive and have used it in accordance with Easy CD CReator and Direct CD for the past two years with no problems.
Until today, when one of my extremely important CD-RW disks' files were apparently 'erased' and replaced with a UFD reader application. This happened once before but I deleted the UDF application and I can't quite remember but I'm pretty sure the original files on the disk were still there except I could not write to the disk anymore.
This time, however, I do not want to risk deleting everything on the CD-RW disk. Adaptec & Backpack's websites were no help at all and I would rather find the solution to this problem here than phone technical support.
If anyone can help me, post immediately. Thankyouthankyouthankyou!

Yes this has happened to me too using Direct CD. The important thing is to not eject the CD at that moment coz it might get damaged irreparably. I lost the content of 2 disks that way, and the CD-RW became unusable even after reformatting :( .

I find that shutting down the computer, then removing the CD, then restarting the computer with minimal background programs running (startup empty, virus scanner off) and only then putting the CD-RW back in would bring the content back.

But i agree, CD-RWs used with direct CD are rather fragile and can get messed up too easily for my taste, so i basically stopped using it for anything important. I'd rather buy CD-Rs in bulk as they are disposable at that price.

For the past couple of years Roxio has been the company that puts out and supports Easy CD creator and DirectCD. The support area of www.roxio.com contains support information about Easy CD Creator/DirectCD even the old versions that were originally put out by Adaptec.
