Has anyone seen this error: "Cannot find or load required file KRNL386.exe"?
I have this problem now that I've upgraded to a 30GB IDE UDMA66 hard drive from an 8.5GB IDE hard drive with a SCSI controller installed. The error displayed is: "Cannot find or load required file KRNL386.exe".
The PC has been working for almost 3.5 months with this configuration.
This error occurs when Win98 is 30-40 seconds into the booting process (GUI hasn't loaded yet). Afterwards Win98 displays this error for about 30 seconds on the screen & then shuts down my Desktop PC. My Win98 system is using an ABIT VT6X4 motherboard, 128MB RAM, Adaptec AHA-2940UW controller with the latest Adaptec drivers, located on their site. Internally the AHA-2940 has both a Tape Drive connected on the normal 50-pin connector side of the card & a hard drive on the UW side of the card. The funny thing is that if I disconnect the hard connected via the Ultra-Wide connector side on the SCSI card Win98 proceeds to load normally. This is also true if I remove the driver from Win98 or if I disable the SCSI controller from Device Manager in Safe Mode & then reboot normally.
I noticed that this problem also only occurs if I partition the new IDE hard drive with a partition larger than 8.5 gigabytes. By the way, there aren't any SCSI drivers or any drivers for that matter loading in my Config.sys nor in my Autoexec.bat file either.
I've tried looking for any significant answer to my problem in MS Technet & on Adaptec's site with no positive solutions as of this writing 7/16/2000.
Thanks in advance.
Can someone please e-mail me at my e-mail account above which is suzukii@hotmail.com?Signed,

forget about he scsi for now remove it if necassary and I mean remove gone sitting on the desk gone and see if it is not the 30 gig HDD the IDE controller might have problems with this large media a bios upgrade could fix the error

I have removed the SCSI & the system works fine without it & the IDE Hard Drive using the full 30GB as on big C: Drive.
I need the SCSI because of the internal tape drive & the external Optical Drive. If it weren't for these two items I'd be done with the SCSI world.
Any other suggestions?
