Somewhere between freeware and shareware. Only sponsered by advertising. They show ads when you are using it. Go!Zilla for example is adware. Many adware programs also install small spy software programs that track your movements and phone home when you are connected to the net. These spies arent erased when you uninstall the adware. Good firewall will block them from phoning home. Ad-aware from lavasoft will get rid of the spies but this usually disables the adware.

Ad-ware, or spyware, includes any files which hide on your system (as cookies, in the regisrty, etc.) that monitor your web-surfing habits, enabling advertiing firms like Doubleclick to deliver personalized pop-ups and other assorted spam to your desktop. If you were referring to Ad-Aware, this is a program that scans your drive for spy software and removes it from your system. It is available for download at www.surecool.com.

Please note: Removing the spyware can prevent some legitimate ad-sponsored programs from working.Read the manual before using this program.(RTSM or is it RTMS!)
