Recently, when using Internet Explorer, it either shuts down or freezes and I have to restore my active desktop and restart Explorer. This has been happening several times a day recently and I can't figure out why. We have norton anti-virus.

If you are using IE that is older than version 6, go to the downloads section of microsoft.com and install the latest version of IE. If you are already using version 6, go to Start>Run, type msinfo32 and click OK. Then click on Tools>Internet Explorer Repair Utility and run it.

if you mean with Active Desktop: view as web page, then remember this slows down performance tremendously. Other thing: spyware has really bad influence on performance of internet explorer. Install AddAware to get rid of that. Especially SaveNow is an awfull thing. The guys who created it (comes with KaZaA) should get a computer in their a.. You must remove it (AddRemove programs) first and then run AddAware.
Moreover a ram optimizer is a must if you have 64MB or less ram.
