Comment:

I have an acer computer w/an acer 32x cd rom.
My cd rom isn't being recognized. It says that their is no driver on the system. It done this before but showed up later, but now I can't find it at all. Beside the Secondary IDE Controller in the Device Manager there is a yellow ! beside it and it says the bios in the device is reporting the resources for the device incorrectly. I use windows 98. I installed windows w/a cdrom so I cant reinstall windows because the cd rom insn't working. I don't know what else to do. It seems I've tried everything. It says to get an updated bios too. How would I do that? What could've caused this problem?

Go to Acer site and download the driver for your CD. Then control panel, system, device manager, highlight the CD rom, and remove. Run install for CD drivers, then reboot and let windows install the CD rom. This should fix the problem.

try putting the cdrom on the primary hdd cable and if you have a hdd on the primary
move it to the secondary. some systems are touchy about where the cdrom goes.

Hi Lynn
This could be a NOIDE entry in the registry.
SYMPTOMS ARE
1. NO CD-ROM listed in Device Manager
2. Yellow flags on Hard Disk Controllers in the Device Manager
3. Drives running in MS-DOS compatibility mode
HOW TO FIX
5. Run REGEDIT and search for NOIDE
6. Entry will be here ( if you have it )
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\VXD\IOS
7. Delete the NOIDE entry
Good luck...Krystyna
