Hi,

My friend has a Compaq Deskpro EX 667mhz. When I start his machine, I have no post telling me which key I have to push to get to the BIOS. I tried all F's keys and DEL... still no success ! I'm desperate... any help would be very appreciated !! I feel soooo stoopid ! lol

Thanks !

If the hard drive was replaced or repartitioned, the bios was lost. A utility to restore it can be downloaded from the Compaq web site.

According to the Compaq website you should press the F10 key when the F10=Setup message is displayed.

Restart the computer.
Press F10 key, as stated in the post above, when the red Compaq logo appears during Startup. This should take you to the BIOS setup area of your computer

Yeah, that compaq should have a rom-based bios. Most of the deskpro's P-II and above are that way so F10 should work regardless of what's on the HD. But if not, go to the compaq page associated with your model to see what downloads are available.

Just FYI, no compaq computer has the BIOS on the hard drive, they have the program to access the BIOS on the hard drive (if it's not a newer one with the access program on a chip as DAVEINCAPS stated).
