When I try to copy the chkdsk.ex_ file from the cd to hard disk it is giving an error saying that chkdsk.ex_ cannot be copied. It is also giving the error stating that the permission is denied. I copy this file for installing dual OS (win 2000 server) in win 98 se.

Chkdsk.ex_ would be the compressed version of chkdsk.exe. Chkdsk.ex_ is not an executable file and would need to be extracted as chkdsk.exe in order for you to use it. But neither chkdsk.ex_ or chkdsk.exe is an individual file on the 98 cd anyway so you wouldn't be able to copy it from the 98 cd. It must be extracted from the cab files on the 98 cd. The normal windows installation installs chkdsk.exe in the windows\command folder so you may already have it on your hard drive.

I don't really know what you're trying to do, but if for some reason you need to get chkdsk.exe from the 98 cd go to 'start', then 'run' and type in SFC.

Choose to 'extract one file from the installation disk' and type in chkdsk.exe. Then click 'start'.

Chkdsk.exe is included as part of Windows 2000, so I'm not sure what you're trying to do with the Win98 version. Please tell us why you think you need this file, and maybe someone can advise you on how to proceed.
