For an 80 gig drive you'd need the updated fdisk or the ME version. The original 98 fdisk won't see a drive properly above about 64 gig. That may be why it's showing at about 10 gig. Also make sure its setting in cmos is at AUTO.

The freezing could be bad RAM, cpu, motherboard or bios.

For a drive larger than about 64 gig, 98 fdisk will only see the difference between the actual size and 64 gig. So an 80 gig drive will show 10-15 gig, depending on how the bytes are measured (binary or decimal).

With the ME version you could create any sized partition up to the drive capacity.

I just replace the 98 defrag with the ME defrag on my bootdisk. There should be some download sites for it. I think Mesich had it on his site. Or I could probably email it.

Hi steppenwolf1, DAVEINCAPS, hello everyone,

There is a Win98 bootdisk at the bottom of the Freeware Page that contains Fdisk for drives 64GB or larger. It also contains Delpart.

'Some' PCs will lock up if you try and hook up a hard drive that is larger than the Bios can handle. That 'might' be the problem if that bios has a 32Gb limit. Make sure the bios is recognizing it as 80gb.

Sorry, I do not check for private messages

Thanks Dan, yeah I wasn't thinking. I usually use the ME defrag on 98 machines and must have been thinking about that. I guess sometimes I just phone it in.
