Internet Explorer is running very slow. Pages take too long to load and while loading the mouse becomes all jerky and cant do much. Here's the background:
Two weeks ago I got a winxp OS and so I removed win98se and wiped everything out. Could not get winxp loaded after several extremely annoying and painful attempts so I went back to the old win98se standby. However, it took 3 times for win98se to get loaded back properly. Well, I thought everything was running ok until Internet explorer began running slow. I loaded IE 6.0 sp1 and downloaded and installed latest security patches and such. That didn't fix problem and actually I think made it run worse. I removed IE6.0 and restored to IE5.0 and it actually improved dramatically; however, it still had a little trouble loading pages, but it did load much faster and about the same speed as before I tried to go to winxp. Someone suggested I try going to IE5.5 (which is what I was using before trying winxp) and that made it worse. I went back to IE5.0 and still sucks and then IE6.0 and still has problem.
I'm at my end here because I don't know how to fix this short of wiping all my s--- out again and reloading win98se in hopes of fixing it.
I've tried IE5.0, IE5.5, IE6.0 with no luck.
I've tried to run repair on internet explorer.
I've tried running Adaware and Spybot.
I've run antivirus.
I've run SFC.
I've deleted history and cache.
I've defraged.
I've tried everthing I can think of short of sacrificing my new printer to the almighty Bill Gates deity. Please, if anyone has ideas or suggestions I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

In internet options in control panel have you gone to the advanced tab and used the restore defaults button. Try that if you havn't.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've already tried that. There's other stuff that I've tried that I had not posted but it's kinda hard to remember everything I did since I've been screwing with it for a while. Thanks again, let me know if you have any other ideas. ;)

I have had many problems with the IE gang. I may have found myself a solution. I downloaded Slim browser, it is a free browser. It does depend on the IE gang but I am not having any problems. That may solve your problems. I have been up and down the streets of the internet trying to solve IE problems I will not though pay microsoft for a phone call. I hope this may help you...goodluck

If you struggled to get the OS re-installed, you may find you have two Windows directories
and some of the drivers are in the wrong directory.....http://computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/151540.html
