Comment:
The latest "A Squared free" updates give you new version 2.0.0.209

I found that my machine, when opening and closing files, frequently gives a General Protection fault followed by a report that IE has malfunctioned.

This was found to be due to the new Context menu option (for checking individual files). I doubt this symptom is peculiar to my machine - more likely a bug which affects older OS's. If you run into this I recommend:

1. Uninstall program.

2. Delete "A Squared" folder (in Program Files) then reboot.

3. Run registry cleaners if you use these.

4. Download new version from:
A-SQUARED FREE - JUST DOWN PAGE

5. DO NOT invoke context option (which only appears during install).

6. Reboot.

If I hear any more I'll let you know.

Posted problem on their forum if anyone is interested (seems I'm not alone):

A-SQUARED FORUM

Not sure if author (Andreas Haak) keeps tabs on the posts there. It's a good program so I hope it gets fixed sometime.

Gidday Derek, long time no hear...

I too am running A-squared free on my 2000
partition, My IE has been giving me more
greif than iv'e ever encountered lately.
Slow to load pages, more "IE has encountered
an error & will restart" errors in one day
than in any given year, I never considered
A-Square to be the culprit thinking that it
was a manual scan prog only, not real time
protection...
I'll uninstall it asap & see if it comes
good...
I'll check the forum out too while i'm at it.
Thanks...

Hi Ken, yeah, sure is a long time.

Symptoms don't fit too well but it's worth a shot. Let me know if it helps.

Hello again...
No it was co-incedental, within the same time
I installed a-squared, MS released a patch
that caused the problem.
I uninstalled it but still the same crash
symptoms in IE..

The facts on the MS patch that killed IE.

Aha, I guess you are on either XP or W2k. No problem on W98SE (no more updates LOL).

The A Squared problem appeared to be quite specific to the Context Menu feature and as there has not been an uproar I guess it only affects those hanging onto older op systems. I'm not optimistic that it will ever get fixed (not enough of us).

Yeah i triple boot 98se / 2000pro & xp on a
120gig drive.
normally my specs show just under my name, seems
to be missing.. :-/
I tend to run different av & spyware apps on
the systems in case I run into problems.
When I saw this thread I thought i'd perhaps
found the cause form the IE6 problems in
Win2k.
Still running Ad-aware on 98.
I posted this in the 2000 section in case
others suffer the same symptoms as I did.
.
Sorry for bringing my 2000 problem here :-)

No problem at all, every input has its value and it helps everyone differentiate between problems which give fairly similar symptoms.
